Our Story

EST 2021

A GROWING

COMMUNITY

The Cape Lavender Initiative began as a community effort in 2021 to identify a crop that was compatible with Cape’s character, was in keeping with Cape’s agricultural heritage, would contribute to Cape’s agritourism future and that would complement Cape’s existing enterprises.

THE PERFECT FIT

CHOOSING

LAVENDER

Lavender, a crop that produces organic raw materials suitable for local production of health, home, and culinary products, was chosen for this initiative. A test planting in 2021 successfully validated the viability of lavender in Cape Clear’s fresh ocean air environment.

GROWTH IN 2022

ACHIEVING

NEW GROWTH

2022 was the year we accomplished “critical mass” with the planting of three different lavender varieties, Munstead, Hidcoteand Grosso, totaling more than 4,000 lavender plants.

BUILDING PARTNERSHIPS

CAPE GROWN

CAPE MADE

2022 also saw the first production of “Cape Grown, Cape Made” lavender products with the introduction of lavender gin, lavender ice cream lavender candles, lavender soaps and skin care products, lavender honey and a broad array culinary products.

EXPANSION IN 2023

COMMERCIAL

PRODUCTION

Commercial equipment for a processing infrastructure and the 2023 harvest enabled the increased production of “Cape grown,Cape made”organic lavender products for health, home and culinary markets.

OUR STORY CONTINUES
